I was so excited when Kaycee reached out to me to photograph her wedding. I am friends with her sister Karie and knew that if they were anything alike, we would get along great! Kaycee and Michael love the outdoors and wanted their engagement session to reflect that. We decided that a Snowbasin engagement session was the way to go because I knew that it would be beautiful regardless of the weather. However, I was not prepared for how cold it would be. As the day of the session approached, the forecast was looking a little scary with record low temperatures and snow but we decided to go for it and make the best of the situation.
When we started the shoot, the weather app on my phone said that it was 19 degrees, “feels like” 9 degrees. I am not much of a winter enthusiast and only enjoy going out in the snow for photography. I knew that I was probably under-prepared for the situation and had worn rain boots that only went to my ankles. When we ventured off the road at the first location we were thigh-deep in snow. My socks quickly became soaked and I knew I was in trouble. Kaycee was in a short-sleeved dress and was an absolute champ about the whole situation. At one point she even got some gloves from her car for me to wear. I was sloshing around in my boots but having a blast!
By the end of the shoot, we were all beyond freezing! As I was driving down toward the canyon, my feet started to unthaw. I was in so much pain but there was no where to pull over. I remember thinking “this is worse than childbirth”.
This Snowbasin engagement session definitely goes in the books as one of the most memorable sessions I’ve ever done. Find out more about my wedding packages here.
