As a Salt Lake photographer, having to adjust to difficult weather is not unusual. This family was the second one we photographed during Amy Simpson’s photography workshop. By this time in the evening the rain was coming down and we had about 15-20 minutes to get all of the photos. These kids did so great and I love how these pictures turned out!
I learned so much at Amy’s workshop. She taught us how to photograph organic, candid connection between family members with strategic prompts. We got to practice some of the strategies she taught us with this family and I love the result. I have felt so inspired and can’t wait to implement the things I learned in my upcoming sessions.
The Utah State Capitol building is one of my favorite spots for family photos. The stone provides the most beautiful, neutral backdrop and the skyline views of the sunset are unbeatable. There’s even a park right next to it for those who want to add some nature into their gallery. Trying to photograph at any other location in this rain would have been a nightmare. Luckily, there was no mud or slippery conditions to deal with.
