Spring and summer are very popular times for extended family photos because schedules are typically lighter. As a Utah family photographer, I love getting to capture the love and different dynamics of large families. This extended family was extra special because it was for my cousin’s in-laws.
Meaghann told me that her parents wanted family pictures taken at their neighbor’s house and I wasn’t sure what to expect. They live in a more rural area of Cache Valley and it is absolutely beautiful. We started the session in a field near their house next to a rustic wooden fence. Then we headed a few yards over to their immaculately manicured lawn. I love locations that provide versatile backdrops without having to walk far, and this location was perfect for that. It looked remote but was easily accessible.
A lot of people don’t realize how much value is included in an extended family session. These shoots are typically around 90 minutes long. I provide photos of the entire group in whatever variations are wanted before breaking it up into mini sessions of each family. Extended family galleries are usually quite large because I don’t stop shooting until everyone is satisfied. Many clients book extended family sessions for their parents and split the cost between siblings. This makes it extremely affordable and everyone receives pictures that they love and are excited to print for their homes.
